Interest Faith Groups at SUMC
   
Golfing Group
Leaders:  Randy Babcock  &   Bob Hoyt  
For those who have an understanding of the game of golf and want to just to play golf with others. The group is planning to meet one or two times a month with outings likely at Pleasant Valley Golf Course (PVGC).  The group would gather and be presented with a key scripture verse and brief devotional before playing.

Flower Gardening Group
Leader: Betsy Vahey 
This is a group for those who wish to share their interest in flower gardening. The frequency of the meetings would be decided by the group. The winter months could be used to discuss design ideas and other areas of gardening. The group would meet in homes. Initial discussions of scripture verses would be about the beauty of God’s creation.  
 
Trains and Tunes: Toy Train and Victrola Restoration
Leader:  Paul Nesbitt 
This is a group for those who have interest in restoring or maintaining old mechanical devices with a focus on old electric trains and spring driven Victrolas. If you have a toy train from your past or an old Victrola family heirloom and want to get it working again this group is for you.
The group would initially meet at SUMC with a start date in mid-January. Subsequent meetings would be in homes. Key scripture verse would be presented at each meeting for discussion while working on restorations. Zoom check-in meetings are a possibility.
 
Sailing Small Group
Leader: Joe Dablock 
This group is for seasoned sailors and persons who want to learn how to sail. Members will come together and each be enriched, through sharing knowledge and learning the sport/craft/heritage of sailing. While a seasonal group, members could meet as early as late February for planning and instruction. The ability to swim is encouraged though not required. The group could meet as often as once a week during sailing season. Key scripture verses would be included in conversation.

Craft Beer Appreciation Group
Leaders:  Mary and Edward Sloat   

For those who have an interest in and appreciation for crafted beers. Suggested meeting twice a month, once at a member home, and again at a local brewery/tap house. The next gathering will be Thursday, May 5th at the new South County Brewery off Leaders Heights exit 10 at 6:00 pm
 
Cars Maintenance Group
Leader:  Joe Dablock
This group is for those who want to learn the details of how cars work and to teach basic maintenance. It will also include learning how to make good decisions regarding whether maintenance should  be done by themselves  or by professionals  for best dollar value. This group would meet weekly and could also be a revolving group welcoming new members based on need. Key scripture verses would be included in conversation

Women’s Book Group
Leader:    Janet Fischer-Byers  

For women of all ages who like to read and share in discussion of books and who wish to be in fellowship. The group would encourage spiritual growth by discussing the various situations found within the books as well as devotional verses. June 6th for 4 Monday evenings at 7pm, place TBD. Name of the book is "Finding Chika" by Mitch Albom,  author of "The 5 People you Meet in Heaven".  Books available on Amazon.

Hiking Group
Leader:  Ginger Babcock

For anyone interested in hiking easy to moderate trails, mostly within an hour’s drive of Stewartstown.

   Participants can participate during all four seasons and should dress according to the anticipated weather, and have additional

   items in their backpack.   The group  will share a key verse at the outset and will discuss during the hike.  

Future dates:  May 18th, May 25th, May 29th, June 5th, June 14th, June 25th, June 30th, July 9th and July 23rd



 College Brunch Group

   Leaders:      Curtis Druck ,   Michael Daiuto   &  Sophia Wetzel    

For college age young adults who wish to grow in faith & fellowship. Meet at the 9am Well service and go 

   out for brunch focusing on a verse from the worship service. Plan to start over the Christmas break beginning    

   Sunday, Dec 19. Frequency of meetings will be determined after that.


 



Dementia Support Group
Leaders:  Carol Knepley  &  Kathy Fix   
A support group for caregivers of people with dementia. The group will meet on the first Monday of every month from 11a.m.-1p.m. in the Community Room at the Stewartstown Library starting immediately. Will be using “The 36-hour Day” a family guide to caring for people who have Alzheimer’s Disease and other related dementias and memory loss.  It is NOT necessary to have or read the book before meetings. Chapter excerpts will be used to guide our discussions.
 
Seniors Fellowship Group
Leader:  Ev Barrows   
A group for seniors who are seeking fellowship. The group will meet 1-2 times a month in the
beginning, starting with lunch at Taylor Haus then progressing to other restaurants. The hope is to
add other fellowship events as the group grows. Key scripture verses will be discussed as a part
of the gathering.
 
Landscape Watercolor Painting Group
Leaders: Jim & Karen Starr    
A group for people who seek fun, fellowship, and discovery while painting watercolor landscapes. All skill levels are welcome exploring basic tips and techniques, moving on to creating paintings from photos or references of your choice. Watercolor Paper will be provided, but participants will need to bring all other supplies into the class. Us the sign up below to contact us about your interest and Jim & Karen will reach out to you about details and supply list.  

Baking Group
Leader:  Julie Allen
Do the words “sugar, butter, flour” make your heart flutter?  Do you love baking for family and friends?  Maybe you’ve never baked, but always wanted to try!  This group may be for you!  We know food brings people together around the table, but it can also do this in the kitchen.  We will meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month, once in the church kitchen where we will concoct and connect over recipe and Scripture; the second meeting will be in a member’s home or local coffee shop where we will continue the fellowship.  Recipes will be provided ahead of time, but supplies/equipment will need to be supplied by each attendee.  The group will meet in the church kitchen on Tuesday, June 14th to bake.  Anyone interested in attending that day should sign up below to receive more information.
